Nan Cewen, born in 1962, is an expert in materials science, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries, and professor of the School of Materials Science of Tsinghua University.

In 1982 and 1985, he received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree respectively from East China University of Technology, and in 1992, he received a doctor's degree (on the job) from Wuhan University of Technology. He was once the dean of the Department of Materials of Tsinghua University. He currently serves as the president of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University, the chairman of the International Ceramic Federation (ICF), the vice chairman of the Chinese Silicate Society, and the chairman of the Asian Electronic Ceramics Association. He served as the Chief Scientist of the National 973 Program in the direction of "functional ceramics" (since 2002 -), and the academic leader of the innovation research group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (2006-2015).

He has been engaged in the research of functional composites and ceramic materials for a long time. An effective medium method to deal with the complex multi field coupling effect in composite materials is constructed, and the solution to calculate the macro multi field coupling performance coefficient is given. A new magnetoelectric composite system based on ferromagnetic alloy was designed and developed, and the composite giant magnetoelectric effect was proposed. The multiferrous magnetoelectric composite films were systematically studied, and a variety of new magnetoelectric memories and sensing elements were proposed. An effective medium model is established to calculate the influence of interface factors of heterogeneous materials on macroscopic physical transport properties; Under the guidance of interface model, new high dielectric materials and composite solid electrolytes for safe lithium batteries have been developed.

He has published more than 400 academic papers and has been cited by other SCI people for more than 10000 times (H-factor=52); Published 1 academic monograph; 30 national invention patents were authorized. He has presided over international and domestic academic conferences for many times, and made theme reports and invited reports at international conferences for 50 times. He has won 1 second prize of National Natural Science Award, 3 provincial and ministerial awards, 2 foreign awards, etc.
